Costumer Reviews

When the bike turned up it looked amazing. It was easy to put together instructions where good. The bike is lightweight, looks good and a nice colour.

The first time it was used the peddle fell off, something to do with the threading being crossed. The second time the bike went out it was used again for about 10 seconds because the gears went wrong. It is currently in the bike shop being repaired, they are out of alinement. I am hugely disappointed with this bike as it was a present for someone and they havent been able to use it properly yet.

Although I have bought this one new, and it is only 2 weeks old, I had a virtually identical bike called the Reebok Core 18" Cycle [...] for a year until it got stolen in 2010. The frame shape is exactly the same to the smallest of detail, and most of the parts have not changed much. The old bike's reviews are very good and I regard these to be a more accurate reflection of what the bike is actually like because they are virtually identical anyway.

Of course it looks great, it stands out (which probably lead to the old one being stolen) and that is a positive factor. But that's not the most important. The bike should be very reliable (because the old one was), if the bike is maintained properly - but if its abused or used on rough terrain a lot then it will fall to pieces because its not an expensive bike.

The combination of the rear V-brakes and front Disc I always found to be a very good combination, because if you use both of them, or the rears a lot, then you won't have to pay out for expensive disc brake pads. In addition, the front will take over in the wet conditions. The disc brake unit changed from the last model, but actually it seems like a more sturdy model than the previous one, so that's definitely a plus.

The gear system is the same as the previous model, and is still pretty good. That said, you still can't engage 1st gear properly unless you tighten the cable an awful lot, which I haven't been able to do. But, it is a very smooth ride and in comparison to the rubbish full suspension bike that I have been riding prior, it is much easier and more pleasant to ride. The acceleration seems to be particularly good, and this helps to ease up hills better.

The bike is quite heavy, but its not super heavy by any means. But it still adds weight when you are trying to get up hills, which is a disadvantage. The tyres it comes with are off-road, and not meant for on-road use, but they seem to be OK although they are obviously slower than proper ones. The front suspension on this new bike seems to be working at the moment, but in my experience with the old model it soon stopped working properly and pretty much stopped moving (probably because you have to oil it, but I wasn't bothered about it).

So overall, a very good quality bike for the price, and if looked after, will last quite a while. Don't buy if you're anything like a hardcore cyclist/mountain biker or anything, though.

Edit: 15th Nov 2011 - I have reduced the score to 4 stars due to the quality of some of the parts, which are poor, although most of them are still actually very good quality. The bike developed a very loud screeching sound coming from the crank about a week in, although the bike still rode absolutely fine as I continued to use it. The local bike shop said that the bottom bracket had either not been installed correctly, had a manufacturing defect or was effectively a rubbish part. As a result of this small disappointment, I have knocked off 1 star.
